How it works
The NZ minimum wage is the minimum hourly rate employers must pay. Different rates apply for adults (standard), starting-out workers (80% of adult), and trainees. Overtime and penal rates may also apply under employment agreements.
Current rates (Apr 2025)
Adult minimum: $23.15/hr. Training and starting-out: $18.52/hr (80% of adult). Rates are reviewed annually by the government based on recommendations from MBIE.
